Roger Miller 9/14/1999

Review

Roger Miller's output for the Smash Mercury label was at its peak in 1964-1965. Even though he would never achieve that level of success again, he did occasionally make the charts until his time with the label expired in 1973. It's unfortunate that lesser hits like "Walkin in the Sunshine," "Little Green Apples," and "Me and Bobbie McGee" weren't included on this compilation along with obvious choices like "King of the Road" and "Dang Me." To really grasp Miller's creativity beyond 1964 and 1965, it's advisable to skip the 20th Century Masters- The Millennium Collection and pick up the three-CD box set King of the Road. ~ Al Campbell
