Alejandro Sanz

Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz has enjoyed phenomenal success, especially within Latin speaking markets. His talent has been recognised with three Grammy Awards and 17 Latin Grammys, including Album of the Year on three occasions, the only Latin artist to have achieved this. Sanz began playing guitar at the age of seven and was heavily influenced by his family's flamenco roots and this influence is a recurring theme in many of his compositions. After releasing his debut album at the age of 19 commercial success eluded him until the follow-up 'Viviendo Deprisa' in 1991. Two more albums followed, both of which served to underpin his growing popularity but it was his fifth album 'Más', released in 1997, that propelled him into the big time with Latin audiences. 'Más' was an international hit and its success paved the way for the next album, 'El Alma al Aire', which sold more than a million copies in the first week of its launch in 2000. A collaboration with the Columbian singer Shakira on the single 'La Tortura' became an international hit, topping the charts in many countries around the world. With eleven studio albums to his credit Sanz is one of the most successful Latin artists of modern times.
