Calcinha Preta

Calcinha Preta are a Brazilian festival band playing in the traditional forró style. The band was intially the brainchild of local businessman Gilton Andrade in conjunction with the composer Natinho da Ginga who came up with the musical formula for the group in 1995. Since its formation the band has built up a reputation for performing lavish stage shows with bold costumes and stage sets and perform a repetoire comprising of many international pop and rock standards. Their debut album was released in 1996 and featured the vocalists Sidney and Luciana Linhares who were the first in a long line of distinguished singers who have performed with the band. Their second album was a collaboration with another forró band Forrozao da Condenada and it featured the track 'Where the Dream' which has since gone on to become one of their signature tunes. They are one of the most successful of the modern Brazilian forró bands and have a fan base extending far beyond their native country.
