Carlos Jean

Carlos Jean Arriaga, known professionally as Carlos Jean, is a Spanish DJ, music producer and singer. He was born on June 15 1973 in Ferrol, Spain. In 1996, he joined singer/actress Najwa Nimri on a musical project named Najwajean, a trip-hop band that went on to achieve popularity and critical acclaim with the release of albums such as their 1998 debut No Blood. In 2000, Carlos Jean released his solo debut Planet Jean, gaining notoriety as a producer. Shortly afterwards, he started producing and remixing tracks by Spanish artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Fangoria and Raphael. From then on, Carlos Jean would alternate between releasing solo material, material with Najwajean, and working as a producer for other artists. In 2002, he released Back to Earth, which contained the internationally successful single “Mr. Dabada.” He continued to gain success as a producer, working with pop stars such as Hombres G, Miguel Bosé, Estopa, and Fey. After the 2010 Haitian earthquake, Carlos Jean released the charity single “Ay Haiti,” a collaboration with 25 Spanish and international artists including Shakira, La Oreja de Van Gogh, and Juanes. In 2011, he started the Plan B initiative, a collaborative music project which allowed anyone to add elements to the music base Carlos Jean would post online. 2015 saw the release of Bonzo, the first album by Najwajean in seven years. In 2020, he released the track “Hasta el Cielo,” a collaboration with Mala Rodriguez, Carolina Yuste, and Dollar Selmouni for the soundtrack to the crime thriller film of the same name.
