Coldrain

Formed in Nagoya, Japan, in 2007, Coldrain blended post-hardcore screams and hard rock melodies into a marketable sound, with albums like 2013's The Revelation and 2015's Vena reaching the Top 10 during the 2010s. Vocalist Masato Haykawa, bassist Ryo Shimizu, drummer Katsuma Minatani, and guitarists Ryo Yokochi and Kazuya Sugiyama initially bonded over a shared appreciation for the band Sevendust, whose influenced steered early albums like 2009's Final Destination and 2011's The Enemy Inside. Two years later, The Revelation marked the band's first global release, reaching Number 7 on Japan's Gaon Albums Chart and Number 4 on Australia's ARIA Hitseeker Albums chart. Despite their growing audience in other countries, Coldrain remained most successful at home in Japan, where Vena hit Number 9 in 2015, Fateless reached Number 8 in 2017, and The Side Effects climbed to Number 10 in 2019. Two years later, the band released "Paradise (Kill the Silence)," the first track from the band's seventh studio album. "Paradise (Kill the Silence)" became a hit not only in Japan, where it hit Number 14 on the Japan Billboard 100, but also in Germany, where it reached Number 3 on the German Rock Airplay chart. Four additional singles were released before the band unveiled the album itself, Nonnegative, which appeared in 2022 and featured an imaginative cover of the No Doubt hit "Don't Speak."
