Daniel Powter

Daniel Powter is a Canadian singer-songwriter best known for his 2005 hit single Bad Day. It received numerous airplay throughout Europe and US, and thrust Daniel Powter into the mainstream - staying in the UK Top 10 for over thirteen weeks, and named Billboard's 2006 single of the year. Powter was raised in British Columbia, and began learning the violin from a very young age, but soon began learning the piano in earnest. Although he was accepted by Grant MacEwan in Alberta to study music, he dropped out two months later due to his difficulties with dyslexia. He began to learn melodies by ear, and released his first album I'm Your Betty in 2000. However, this received little attention, and it wasn't until his second album, released in 2005, that he received critical acclaim. Following this, Powter performed at Live8, and received a BRIT Award nomination for Best International Breakthrough Act. Although still receiving attention in his native Canada, subsequent singles failed to chart successfully. In 2010 he was working on a third album with producer, and former singer songwriter, Linda Perry.
