Desire

Blending atmospheric textures with synthpop and throwback disco vibes, Canadian electro-pop outfit Desire made their way into the limelight through a series of features in films and fashion shows. Formed in 2009 in Montreal, the duo composed of vocalist Megan Louise and producer Johnny Jewel (of Chromatics fame) made their debut that same year with the full-length II, which made it to several Best of the Year lists propelled by the track “Under Your Spell.” The hazy, new wave-inspired single put the band on the map and gained traction as it appeared in the soundtrack of Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 film Drive as well as in Christian Dior’s Haute Couture fashion show the following year. In 2015, the band recorded “Behind the Mask” for the soundtrack of the Ryan Gosling-directed Lost River before going on an indefinite hiatus. They returned in 2018 with the single “Tears from Heaven,” which was followed by a cover of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle” and “Escape,” the title track of their sophomore effort, released in 2020.
