Destiny

Destiny Chukunyere (August 25, 2002), known mononymously as Destiny, is a Maltese pop singer. The daughter of Nigerian football player Ndubisi Chukunyere, she was born in the city of Birkirkara and took part in several singing competitions before jumping into the spotlight by winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 with the song “Not My Soul.” Upon her return home, she was given the Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika, an award bestowed by the President of the Republic of Malta. In 2017, she was selected to participate in the 11th season of talent competition Britain’s Got Talent, making it to the semi-finals and finishing in sixth place. Her first official appearance in the Eurovision Song Contest came in 2019 as a backup singer for Malta’s representative, Michela Pace. That same year, Destiny was crowned the winner of the music competition X Factor Malta, automatically earning the chance to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. However, the event was postponed due to the coronavirus and she had to wait until 2021 to make her official Eurovision debut with the song “Je me casse.” Written by Amanuel Dermont, Malin Christin, Nicklas Eklund, and Pete Barringer, the track was placed seventh in the competition and was later released as a single, achieving pole position in her native Malta and charting simultaneously in Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.
