Eddie Gomez

Eddie Gomez is a Grammy Award-winning American jazz musician who is described by the All About Jazz website as "a consummate bassist, sterling educator and a musician active in a wide variety of musical settings". He played for eleven years in pianist Bill Evan's trio and he has been a go-to accompanist for a great many artists including Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis, Joanne Brackeen, Chick Corea, and Jeremy Steig and played on the iconic 'Tim Hardin 3 Live in Concert' album in 1968. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York, he played the double bass as a child and later studied at the Juilliard School. He had a stint with the Newport Festival Youth Orchestra and later performed with the Manhattan Jazz Quintet and Steps Ahead. He recorded many albums with Bill Evans including 'Some Other Time: The Lost Session from the Black Forest' with drummer Jack DeJohnette, which was released in 2016 and topped Billboard's Jazz Albums Chart, and 'Another Time: The Hilversum Concert', which came out in 2017 and went to number three. 'Further Explorations' with pianist Chick Corea and drummer Paul Motian, which was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2012, reached number six. He has performed and recorded with Bobby Darin, Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, Mark Knoffler, Michael Franks, Judy Collins and Jennifer Holliday and had a stint with Steve Gadd's all-star R&B and jazz band, The Gadd Gang. A dedicated teacher, he is artistic director of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, a resident artist at the Berklee College of Music, and artist in residence and associate professor of jazz double bass at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has conducted masterclasses at many universities in America and in Europe, he has been artist in residence at the Conservatory of Music in Siena, Italy, the Conservatorio Liceu in Barcelona, Spain, the Conservatoire de la Musique et la Danse in Paris, France, and the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. He plays with classical music ensembles and in 2015 he performed 'Counterpoints' by Simon Bainbridge with the Britten Sinfonia at the EFG London Jazz Festival. His latest album is 'Kind of Bill: Live at Casino di Sanremo' with Italian pianist Dado Moroni and American drummer Joe La Barbera.
