Ellen Allien

An innovative and influential DJ and producer, Ellen Allien's music and style is indelibly associated with the Berlin techno scene. Indeed, her debut album 'Stadtkind' in 2001 was dedicated to Berlin, her home city, citing the reunification of east and west Germany as one of her main inspirations. Yet it was while she was living in London in 1989 that she first became consumed by the acid house music phenomenon of the time. Returning home to Berlin she started DJ-ing in clubs, later hosting shows on Berlin's Kiss-FM radio station and forming her own record label Braincandy. From there she became a noted producer, releasing a number of 12" singles and a succession of albums and remixes. In 2006 she collaborated with fellow German electronic musician Apparat on the acclaimed and influential 2006 album 'Orchestra of Bubbles', after which she also launched her own fashion line. She followed this with the minimalist albums 'Sool' (2008), 'Dust' (2010), with Tobias Freund, and LISm (2013), composed for a French dance production. Continuing to release at least two singles a year, she returned in 2017 with the full-length club-friendly album 'Nost', filled with hypnotic dance beats and infectious grooves.
