Emmanuel

Jesús Emmanuel Arturo Acha Martinez, better known by his stage name Emmanuel, is a Mexican singer and songwriter. With over 35 million albums sold, he is one of the most successful Latin American pop stars of all time. He was born in Mexico City on April 16, 1955. His mother was famous Spanish singer Conchita Martinez and his father was Argentinian celebrity bullfighter Raúl ‘Rovira’ Acha. Emmanuel almost became a bullfighter himself, but around his late teens he started becoming more interested in music. After winning a song competition in 1976, he released his first album 10 Razones Para Cantar on the RCA label. This was followed by Amor Sin Final the following year, which gained him international attention. But it was the 1980 album Íntimamente that obtained widespread success and popularity. The album spawned the hit singles “Insoportablemente Bella,” “Quiero Dormir Cansado,” and “Todo Se Derrumbó Dentro de Mí” along with four other successful radio hits. This led to international recognition; soon, he was starring on soft drink commercials along with Tina Turner, and starring as Argentinian tango legend Carlos Gardel on a television TV drama. Throughout the 80s he released massively successful albums such as Emmanuel (1984) and Desnudo (1986), continuing his hold on the airwaves. In 1990 Emmanuel released the album Vida, containing the hit single “Bella Señora,” a version of the Italian pop song “Bella Signora.” Over the course of the 1990s and 2000s, Emmanuel released a string of successful albums focusing on the romantic ballad genre. In 2011, he was awarded the Billboard Latin Music Lifetime Achievement Award.
