Gallows

Tackling contentious subjects like date rape, street violence and depression, Gallows made their mark during the late 2000s as one of Britain's angriest bands, adopting hardcore intensity and uncompromising punk values. Strongly influenced by 1980s bands Black Flag and Minor Threat, they were formed by guitarist Laurent Barnard after the split of his previous band My Dad Joe. Signed by Nottingham label In At The Deep, they released their first album Orchestra Of Wolves in 2006 on a shoestring budget and excited interest in America the following year with an appearance at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Signed to Epitaph Records on the back of it, Gallows reissued their debut album there with three extra tracks, including a cover of Black Flag's Nervous Breakdown. They got their first UK hit single with a cover of The Ruts' Staring At The Rude Bois, which featured in the Jim Carrey movie Yes Man. Planning "the heaviest album we've ever heard", the band released second album Grey Britain in 2009, commenting on the depressed state of the UK and including guest appearances by Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro and members of Rolo Tomassi and Cancer Bats. They continued their march as a top festival attraction through 2010.
