Jesse Powell & The Caddies

Jesse Powell – born on September 12, 1971, in Gary, Indiana – was a Grammy-nominated R&B singer with a four-octave range best known for his 1999 hit “You.” The brother of R&B duo Trina & Tamara, he began his musical career singing in a group with his sisters and brother Jacob. Discovered by producer Louis Silas, he was signed to the Silas Records label, which was distributed by MCA. His 1996 self-titled debut album was released in 1996 and reached Number 35 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart. The album contained the R&B chart hits “All I Need” (Number 32) and “Gloria” (Number 51). Released in 1998, Jesse Powell’s second album, ‘Bout It, featured a bevy of hot producers – including Smoove and Rodney Jerkins – reached Number 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. The album featured the hit singles “I Wasn’t with It” and “You,” which reached Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 2 on the R&B / Hip-Hop Singles chart. Jesse Powell released his third album, JP, in 2001, which was followed by the album Jesse in 2003. The albums didn’t see the same kind of chart success as his first two albums, and he drifted out of the spotlight. Jesse Powell died on September 13, 2022, at the age of 51.
