Kathy Mattea

Country singer Kathy Mattea was born in West Virginia in 1959. She became a professional performer at the age of 24, known for her musical versatility and the wide range of musical influences within her songwriting including bluegrass, folk, traditional country and even occasional hints of Celtic music. During her career she has had four number one singles plus many more that have reached the top ten. Of her 14 album releases, five have been certified gold and one platinum. Her talents are widely acknowledged within the music industry and this has been recognised with two Grammy Awards plus a further four nominations. As well as her solo work Mattea has had a number of successful collaborations with other artists including Dolly Parton, Jackson Browne, Michael McDonald and Johnny Halliday. As an artist her breakthrough album was the critically-acclaimed 'Walk the Way the Wind Blows' which went to number 13 in Billboard's Country Chart and spawned four top ten hits. Since its success, Mattea has been a consistent performer whose albums invariably garner excellent reviews in the country music press.
