Kelly Lee Owens

Welsh electronica artist Kelly Lee Owens was born August 24, 1988 in Rhuddlan. Growing up she learned drums and the bass guitar, and avidly put herself in Wales’s indie music scene. In 2009 she left behind a job as a nurse at the behest of her parents who knew of her dreams to be a part of the music world. After a move to London, she would learn electronic production from Daniel Avery and James Greenwood, with Avery allowing her to help create the album that would become Drone Logic. She channeled what she learned into her 2017 debut album, Kelly Lee Owens, a collection of dreamy techno pop. The album track “Arthur” (a song for her idol, Arthur Russell) caught the ears of Alexander McQueen, who gave Owens a profile boost when he used it at one of his runway shows. She earned some big-name fans, remixing and/or collaborating with such notable figures as Björk, John Cale, and St. Vincent. Her sophomore LP, Inner Song, dropped in 2020.
