KJ-52

Rap artist KJ-52 was born Jonah Sorrentino in 1975 and raised in Tampa, Florida. Sorrentino occupies a niche within the world of rap for he is a devout Christian and promotes his faith through his music. A measure of Sorrentino's popularity among Christian audiences can be gauged by the numerous GMA Dove Awards which the Gospel Music Association has bestowed upon him, winning six awards from 16 nominations. Over the years Sorrentino has been likened to a Christian version of Eminem with Eminem's song 'Stan' being the inspiration for a Sorrentino track 'Dear Slim'. This concept did not sit well with some of the more extreme followers of Eminem and Sorrentino was inundated with hate mail from fans who assumed 'Dear Slim' was some form of 'diss track'. Controversy notwithstanding, Sorrentino has built up a loyal following and on occasion his music has managed to attract crossover audiences from outside Christian music.
