Les Amazones d'Afrique

Contemporary world music supergroup Les Amazones d'Afrique performed their first concert in 2015 at the Fiesta des Suds in Marseilles, France. They are a supergroup of female musicians who pride themselves on promoting the place of women in music. All profits from their debut release 'I Play the Kora' were donated to The Panzi Foundation, an organisation that provides support to victims of sexualised violence. The song, 'I Play the Kora', was noted for its extreme statement, as women in West Africa were not allowed to play the kora until very recently. Their reputation grew and they signed their first record deal with Real World Records and released their debut album 'République Amazone' in 2017.
