Love Psychedelico

Formed in 1997 as "Love Psychedelic Orchestra," Love Psychedelico is a Japanese duo featuring vocalist Kumi and guitarist Naoki Sato. The two musicians launched the band while enrolled at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo, Japan. After performing with a more expansive band for several years, Kumi and Sato transformed the project into a duo and released their debut single, "Lady Madonna (YĆ«utsu Naru Spider)," in 2000. Although the song stalled at Number 88 on the Oricon chart, it was quickly followed by two Top 20 hits, "Your Song" and "Last Smile." All three singles appeared on the band's debut album, cheekily titled The Greatest Hits. Released in January 2001, The Greatest Hits peaked at Number 1 in Japan and sold 1.5 million copies. It was followed by another chart-topping release, Love Psychedelic Orchestra, in 2002. Love Psychedelic Orchestra featured the band's first pair of Top 10 hits: "Free World," which charted at Number 5, and "I Will Be With You," which rose to Number 10. Love Psychedelico III was released in 2004 and reached Number 2, while a compilation album, Early Times, returned the band to Number 1 in 2005. For the following 12 years, Love Psychedelico routinely reached the Top 10 of the Oricon Album Chart, hitting Number 5 with Golden Grapefruit in 2007, Number 7 with Abbot Kinney in 2010, Number 5 with In This Beautiful World in 2013, and Number 10 with Love Your Love in 2017. The group continued to tour and record new material during the 2020s, releasing the Top 20 single "Swingin'" in 2020 and "A Revolution" in 2022.
