NAILS

Declared "the angriest band in hardcore" by Rolling Stone magazine, South California thrashers Nails formed in 2009 with the goal of purging all of their emotion and angst into a kind of primal noise furnace. Fronted by Todd Jones with bassist John Gianelli and drummer Taylor Young, the volatile, brutal sound of debut album Unsilent Death drew comparisons with Slayer, Discharge and Black Flag, and critics praised their vitriolic styles. Their unrelenting aggression and break-neck speed continued on follow-up Abandon All Life in 2013, but the extreme force of their music and a reluctance to tour extensively meant that they maintained an underground, cult reputation. Jones continued to work a full-time job as an IT specialist and raise a family, but was still able to complete the band's fourth album You Will Never Be One Of Us. Despite being in their thirties, the band wanted to capture the explosive emotions they had as angry, energetic 15-year-olds. It resulted in a typically ferocious affair that included their trademark 30-second bursts of savage screed alongside the grinding eight-minute epic closing track They Come Back Crawling.
