River Whyless

Formed in 2012, River Whyless are a neo-traditional folk four-piece from Asheville, North Carolina. The band’s lineup consists of Daniel Shearin (bass, vocals), Ryan O’ Keefe (guitar, vocals), Halli Anderson (violin, vocals), and Alex McWalters (drums), all of whom were students at the Appalachian State University. After graduating, they all relocated to Asheville and self-recorded their independently-released studio debut A Stone, a Leaf, an Unfound Door in 2012. Following an eponymous EP released in 2015 via Backwoods Nation, River Whyless signed with the indie label Roll Call for their sophomore effort, 2016’s We All the Light, which featured production by Justin Ringle (of Horse Feathers fame). 2017 found the band as active as ever, releasing the single “Hold Me to Ya” and the Creedence Clearwater Revival cover “Fortunate Son.” Preceded by the singles “Van Dyke Brown,” “Born in the Right Country,” and “Motel 6,” their third LP Kindness, a Rebel hit the shelves in 2018 and was followed by the 2019 standalone singles “The Pool” and “It Ain’t Me Babe.”
