Rosanne Cash

Born at the time her father Johnny Cash was recording the first of his legendary sessions for Sun Records in 1955, Rosanne Cash has made her own unique mark on the music industry with eleven number one country singles and a style informed as much by Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan and Neil Young, as by her father. Her musical education started when she joined her father's travelling road show at the age of 18 and was given a list of his favourite country songs to learn and study as a grounding in Americana folk roots. It led to her working with (and later marrying) songwriter and producer Rodney Crowell for early albums 'Rosanne Cash' (1978) and 'Right Or Wrong' (1980), before her breakthrough record 'Seven Year Ache' (1981) topped the US Country Charts and produced the singles 'My Baby Thinks He's a Train' and 'Blue Moon With Heartache'. 'Rhythm & Romance' (1985) and 'King's Record Shop' (1987) proved career high points and she won a Grammy Award in 1986 for the track 'I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me', but her songwriting became darker and more autobiographical on 'Interiors' (1990), on which she tackled the breakdown of her marriage. A natural storyteller who crosses over to pop, rock and folk audiences, Cash was unable to sing for part of the 1990s but returned after seven years with the Grammy nominated 'Rules of Travel' (2003), which included collaborations with Steve Earle, Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan and Johnny Cash. She went on to appear on records by John Mellencamp, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett and Jeff Bridges, but returned to those songs her father had given her on 'The List' in 2009, featuring guest appearances from Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Tweedy and Rufus Wainwright. She signed to Blue Note Records in 2013 for the release of 'The River and the Thread', a collection of songs written with her second husband John Leventhal. The pair toured together in 2014 and the album went to number one on Americana Radio. The album won three Grammy Awards and Cash was inducted into Nashville's Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015. She released her 14th album, 'She Remembers Everything', in 2018.
