S U R V I V E

Best known for producing the soundtrack to the hugely popular Netflix series 'Stranger Things', S U R V I V E are known for creating an eerie, ambient electronica sound born out of vintage analogue equipment, an obsession with VHS-era sci-fi movie scores and a love of trance-type experimental soundscapes. Producers Kyle Dixon, Michael Stein, Mark Donica and Adam Jones grew up as fans of Warp Records artists such as Aphex Twin, Autechre and Squarepusher, progressing from making laptop beats in their bedrooms to avidly collecting rare synthesisers from the 1970s and '80s from Craigslist. They found hordes of out-dated keyboards, modulars and drum machines at the electronic equipment shop Switched On in Austin, Texas and, along with the like-minded friends like Troller, Missions and Silent Diane, an unlikely experimental synth-pop scene gradually became the talk of the music press. Releasing their early mixtapes, EPs and albums 'Mnq026' and 'HD009' through local label Holodeck Records, they caught the attention of 'Stranger Things' creators Matt and Ross Duffer who used their track 'Dirge' in the pilot episode of the series. The creepy moods created by their mix of Giorgio Moroder, Jean-Michel Jarre and John Carpenter-type sounds worked perfectly for the aesthetic of the 1980s-set sci-fi-horror show, and Stein and Dixon went on to produce a full soundtrack which won an Emmy Award and was nominated for a Grammy in 2016. They also created the score to indie movie 'The Guest' before signing to heavy metal label Relapse Records and earning comparisons to Vangelis, Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream for their acclaimed third album 'RR7349'.
