Satyricon

Norwegian black metal band Satyricon have released nine studio albums during their 25-year recording career. Almost by definition black metal bands operate outside the mainstream music business but in 2002 Satyricon emerged from their underground obscurity and released their fifth album 'Volcano' which won the band numerous awards including a Norwegian Grammy for Best Metal Album. Although the band tour as a conventional five-piece metal band, in essence they are a duo - Sigurd 'Satyr' Wongraven on vocals, guitars, keyboards and bass and drummer Kjetil-Vidar 'Frost' Haraldstad - who hire session musicians when needed. Latterly the band have moved away from hardcore black metal and have strayed towards more conventional rock. Music critics and fans of black metal would say the band reached their musical zenith with their second and third albums, however the band have enjoyed more commercial success following the release of 'Volcano'.
