The Amity Affliction

The Amity Affliction are a metalcore band from Gympie, Queensland, Australia. They were formed in 2003 by school friends Troy Brady and Ahren Stringer and cite a wide variety of bands as musical influences including Slayer, Nirvana, Metallica and Black Sabbath. Their debut studio album was titled Severed Ties and upon its release in 2008, briefly entered the Australian Charts at number 26, which the band followed with Youngbloods (2010) The subject matter of the band's material frequently references suicide, violence and substance abuse which led to considerable controversy on social media after the band used graphic images on the cover of their 2012 record Chasing Ghosts, which topped the charts despite the backlash, a trend that continued with the next three albums Let the Ocean Take Me (2013), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016) and Misery (2018) all debuting at number 1, with 2020 record Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them peaking at number 2. This success led to five ARIA Music Award nominations for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album with This Could Be Heartbreak earning the Highest Selling Album award at the 2017 Queensland Music Awards. In April 2023, the band collaborated with indie singer, phem on “Not Without My Ghosts,” the title track from their eighth studio album, which appeared on May 12.
