Timbalada

Timbalada is an Afro-Brazilian music group from Salvador, Brazil. It was formed by percussionist Carlinhos Brown and their style could be described as a mixture of samba, reggae, and axé music. Known for their strong social commitment and their experimental innovations in percussion, the group participates every year in the Carnival celebrations in their hometown of Salvador. Throughout their decades-spanning career, Timbalada has performed at Montreux Jazz Festival, the Holland Festival, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. They have also toured extensively throughout Latin America, Europe, and Japan. Since the release of their eponymous studio debut in 1993, which featured the massive axé hit "Beija-Flor," Timbalada have racked up numerous awards for their work, including a Prêmio Sharp in 1996 for their full-length, Mineral. In subsequent years, they continued to push the boundaries of the Afro-Brazilian genre with titles such as Pense Minha Cor (1999), Serviço de Animação Popular (2003), Timbalada Ao Vivo (2008), and Timbalada Séc XXI (2017).
