TOKIO

Tokio are a J-pop and rock band formed in Tokyo in 1989 by singer-guitarist Shigeru Joshima and singer-bassist Tatsuya Yamaguchi. They were joined in 1990 by singer-guitarist Hiromu Kojima, keyboard player Taichi Kokubun and drummer Masahiro Matsuoka and in 1994 by singer-guitarist Tomoya Nagase. Their first single 'Love You Only' went to number three on Japan's Oricon Singles Chart and their eponymous debut album the same year reached number eight on the Oricon Albums Chart. Subsequent albums all made the top ten including 'Bad Boys Bound', 'Glider', 'Act II' and 'Harvest' (2006). Number one hit singles on the Oricon Singles Chart include 'Message/Hitoribotchi No Haburashi' (2001), 'Ding Dong/Glider' (2002), 'Ambitious Japan!' (2003), 'Mr. Traveling Man' (2006), 'Sorafune/Do! Do! Do!' (2006), 'Sesiyun' (2007) and 'Haruka' (2010). 'Miageta Ryusel' (2011) went to number four on the Oricon Singles Chart and number seven on Billboard's Japan Hot 100, 'Haneda Kukou No Kiseki' (2012) reached number five and number 20, 'Love, Holiday' (2004) number four and number 16 and 'Ai! Wanna Be With You' (2016) number four and number 13. They have appeared on many Japanese television programmes and host a TV variety show called 'Tokio Kakeru'.
