Violent Soho

Founded in Brisbane, Australia in 2004, Violent Soho is an alternative rock band formed by high school friends Luke Boerdam (vocals, guitar) and James Tidswell (guitar), Luke Henery (bass) and Michael Richards (drums). Their debut grunge-inspired EP Pigs & TV, consisted of songs that Boerdam wrote when he was 14, was released in 2006 and well received by reviewers with the band acquiring a loyal fanbase. On June 7, 2008, Violent Soho released their debut album We Don’t Belong Here, with their second self-titled second album appearing only a year later, its lead single Jesus Stole My Girlfriend featuring on The Sims 3: Ambitions (game) soundtrack. On September 6, 2013, the band released punk-grunge album Hungry Ghost, with its infectious second single “Covered in Chrome” coming in at number 14 on the 2014 Triple J Hottest 100 countdown, number 6 on the ARIA album chart, and certified gold. Waco, released on March 18, 2016, celebrated for its gritty punk rock anthems, propelled Violent Soho into the spotlight, debuting at number 1, and after six years of nominations, winning them an ARIA award for Best Group and Best Rock Album. Their final album Everything is A-OK, considered by Rolling Stone to be their strongest work to date, was released on April 3, 2020, also debuting at number 1 on the ARIA charts, with their final single released in July 2022, heralding the band’s indefinite hiatus.
