Wolfmother

Wolfmother were one of the most successful Australian bands of the 2000s, breaking out of their home country to make a major breakthrough in the US and Europe. They also achieved Australian chart history in 2005 with six tracks in the Australian Hot 100 at the same time - Mind's Eye, Joker & The Thief, Apple Tree, Dimension, Colossal and White Unicorn. Formed in 2000 by Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett, the band based their style on the heavy metal music of 1970s bands like Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath. They built a committed following in the Sydney area, releasing a four-track demo in 2004 to try and get more gigs, but it created such an impact it secured them a record deal and they started getting their first hits in Australia. In 2005 they moved to L.A, recorded their breakthrough self-titled Wolfmother album, and made their mark at several major US and European festivals, including Lollapalooza, Roskilde, Leeds and Reading. When Myles Heskett and Chris Ross quit after personality clashes, the band took a break while Andrew Stockdale sought replacements, eventually recruiting Aidan Nemeth, Ian Peres and Dave Atkins. In 2009 the new line-up recorded the album Cosmic Egg, which reached Number 3 in Australia, including the single New Moon Rising. Dave Atkins subsequently quit the band.
