Wycliffe Gordon

Wycliffe Gordon was born in Waynesboro, Burke County in 1967. Although best known for his trombone playing, Pinecone as he is nicknamed, is a versatile musician and proficient on the trumpet, tuba, piano and also the didgeridoo. Gordon's didgeridoo playing features prominently on his critically acclaimed 2006 album 'This Rhythm On My Mind'. The album is a collaboration with bass player Jay Leonhart and its release launched Gordon's Blues Back label which promoted artists who satisfied Gordon's high artistic standards. His professional recording career began in 1989 when he appeared on four tracks on the Marcus Roberts album 'Deep in the Shed'. After numerous appearances as a sideman Gordon began his solo career with the 1996 album 'Bone Structure'. Since then he has gone on to record a further 28 studio albums plus numerous appearances on other artist's recordings. In addition to his work as a recording artist and performer Gordon is also a music teacher. He is trained to teach classical piano and provides tuition at college level.
