  1. Q. How does the Slacker Portable allocate space for my Slacker Radio stations and my Personal Music.
    A.
    • Each of our players has a set amount of memory for your Slacker Radio stations and your Personal Music.
    • The 15 Station Slacker Portable has room for 15 stations and 500 MB of your own Music.
    • The 25 Station Slacker Portable has room for 25 stations and 1.5GB of your own Music.
    • The 40 Station Slacker Portable has room for 40 stations and 4 GB of your own Music.
    • If you add fewer stations, then over time the Portable will use up the extra room dedicated to the Slacker Radio stations to store more music for the stations you have added.
    • If you have Subscribed to Premium Radio, when you favorite a song and save it to your Library, it will go into the space reserved for your personal music collection.

    A. The Slacker Portable will refresh all the stations on the Portable when it connects to refresh.   You always can cancel out of the refresh if you need to, but you can not refresh some of the stations and not others.   If you do not want a station anymore, you can remove it from the player so that it does not refresh that station in future refreshes.   Please use the Web Player or the Software Player and click the “Portable” button to manage the stations that are refreshed on your Portable.

  1. Q. Why does it take so long to boot up if I reboot the Portable by holding down the Power Switch?
During the initial boot, the Slacker Portable loads up all the information required to use the Portable and the music database.   We suggest that for normal usage, when you power down the Portable that you just hold down and release the Power Switch to turn the player off and put it to sleep.   This will allow the player to power on and start playing your music in a very short time compared to rebooting your Portable.

  1. Q. It seems to take a very long time refresh the stations on my Slacker Portable.
    A. The time it takes to refresh your Slacker Portable can depend on a number of things.  First, your Internet connection speed is the biggest factor.  The faster your speed, the faster that you can receive each song that needs to be refreshed to your Slacker Portable.   In addition, the number of stations you are refreshing and the length of time since your last refresh will also play a large part in the time needed to refresh.   The more “new” stations you are adding to your Slacker Portable, the longer it will take since it needs to build that station and add all new songs to your Slacker Portable.   If you are only refreshing stations that are already loaded on your Portable, then it will only add as many songs as needed to refresh your station.  Therefore, the first refresh of a station will be the longest, and subsequent refreshes should take a far shorter amount of time.

  1. Q. I can’t refresh my Slacker Portable on a Wi-Fi network.
    A. The first thing you need to know is if the Wi-Fi network is an Open or a Protected network.  If the network is Protected, then you need to know the Network Key in order to connect to the network.   When prompted for the Network Key, enter it in by Highlighting the correct character and pressing the scroll wheel to select that character.   When completed click “Done”.

Networks that require both a User Name and a Password, or networks that require you to read an agreement and acknowledge that agreement will not work with the Slacker Portable at this time because the player can not display the needed web pages.

If you have further issues connecting to a Wi-Fi network, please contact Slacker Support by emailing us at support@slacker.com.

    A. In order to use the Slacker Portable with your USB port to refresh, please make sure that you have downloaded and installed the Software Player and that you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista.
Once you have downloaded and installed the Software Player, then connect your Slacker Portable to your computer using USB.   It should find and install the drivers for your Slacker Portable device and attempt to refresh the content on your Slacker Portable.
