Emery 10/18/2011

Review

Drawing nearly equal parts from each of the band’s first four albums, Ten Years serves as a CliffsNotes version of Emery’s career leading up to their 2011 album, We Do What We Want. This kind of collection is a great introduction to the band, allowing new fans to see how Emery have evolved over time, experimenting with different approaches while slowly adding more and more heaviness to their uplifting but cathartic sound. The lack of previously unreleased material and rarities means Ten Years doesn’t really have a lot to offer longtime fans, but those who are unfamiliar with the band couldn’t ask for a better starting point. ~ Gregory Heaney
