Frankie Laine 7/12/1995

Review

This album has a large black mark against it right off the bat because it consists of re-recordings by Frankie Laine of many of his early hits, yet there is no notification on the front or back of the album cover that this is the case. Those who purchase the album on the assumption that the original recordings are featured may be impressed that Laine's considerable vocal chops are well preserved. And those knowledgeable about the split in Laine's catalog between the Mercury and Columbia labels may be happy to have a disc that features songs from both the Mercury and Columbia eras of the singer's career. But these considerations do not outweigh the deception the album perpetrates on consumers. ~ William Ruhlmann
