Review

DeShannon's most determined effort to address the adult pop market, whether at the instigation of herself or her label, resulted in her weakest album up to that point. Devoted largely to querulous interpretations of standards and easy listening tunes, it found the folk-rock innovator of a couple years back losing any sense of purposeful direction. A large part of the problem was that DeShannon left most of the songwriting chores in the hands of others, only contributing a couple of her own compositions. There are a few okay pop efforts on this set ("Where Does the Sun Go," "Proper Girl," "Time"), but it's a best-skipped signpost of a premature decline. ~ Richie Unterberger
