The Drifters 5/7/2002

Review

One of the most important vocal groups of the early '60s, the Drifters blended R&B, gospel, and doo wop into a potent pop mix that predated and set the stage for soul and yielded several wonderful and timeless hits, including several that are collected here -- "On Broadway," "This Magic Moment," "Up on the Roof," "There Goes My Baby," "Some Kind of Wonderful," and "Save the Last Dance for Me" -- although unfortunately these are re-recorded versions featuring one or more members of the original group. ~ Steve Leggett
