Review

After two years, the Union Underground would seem to be due for their second album, but apparently it was not finished in time for the summer touring season. Instead, the band issued this six-song EP of live versions of songs from their 2000 debut, An Education in Rebellion, no doubt designed to demonstrate their appeal as a live attraction. The playing is certainly fierce, but the Union Underground's music hasn't yet emerged as more than an arrangement of simple riffs, martial percussion, and variations on harsh pronunciations of the "F" word by lead singer Bryan Scott. From the sound of it, that seems to have been enough to get a crowd's attention on at least a couple of occasions. ~ William Ruhlmann
