Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's, Vol. 4

Other albums by

Arriving after the excellent third volume of the series, the fourth installment of Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's may have been bound to be a bit of a disappointment, but it still is surprising how it pales in comparison to its predecessor. Despite the presence of Duran Duran's "Girls on Film," Soft Cell's "Tainted Love," Bauhaus' "Ziggy Stardust," Devo's "Freedom of Choice," XTC's "General and Majors," and Greg Kihn's "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)," this is a collection that's geared toward the new wave dedicated. This is a collection for fans of Translator, Altered Images, the Members, Magazine, the Motors, and Phil Seymour -- or at least listeners who recognize some of those names. That's not a detriment, because all of the above (plus many of the other artists on the collection not mentioned) contribute really good songs and, best of all, this is one of the volumes of Just Can't Get Enough that doesn't have novelties, but this is still the province of people who really love new wave. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
