Amitabh Bhattacharya

Born September 28, 1976 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Amitabh Bhattacharya has been an active voice in the Bollywood film industry as a playback singer of Bengali origin and an award-winning lyricist since the mid-'00s. A lucky break in 2004 saw him work with famed composer Amit Trivedi on a cache of advertising jingles but his breakthrough as a vocalist came in 2009 with the hit song "Emotional Atyachar," featured in the 2009 Indian Hindi-language romantic black comedy film Dev.D. His career soon took off; the following year he won a National Award for "Agar Zindagi" from the Indian anthology film I Am and in 2012, picked up his first Filmfare award for "Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin" from the movie Agneepath. He has since won numerous awards for his work as a playback singer and lyricist, with "Bulleya," "Kabira," "Balam Pichkari," "Badtameez Dil," "Mast Magan," "Raabta," "Zehnaseeb," and "Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin," among some of his most notable songs. He won an impressive nine awards in 2016 for "Channa Mereya" from Indian Hindi-language film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and scooped the best lyricist accolade at the 63rd Filmfare Awards for "Ullu Ka Patha." In 2022, he worked as a lyricist on a trio of films with composer Pritam, including fantasy adventure flick Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva.
