Anthony Daasan

Anthony Dasan is a playback singer in the Tamil industry, as well as a genre-fluid solo artist whose music incorporates elements of folk, electronica, and rock. He was born on April 26, 1977, in Tamil Nadu, India. His father was a musician, and Dasan grew up in the village of Reddipalayam, where he performed music at home as well as in church. He later formed his own band, Anthonyin Party, whose music blended classic Tamil folk with contemporary electronica. Although the group enjoyed national success during the 2010s, Dasan first established himself as a playback singer, making his debut by performing the song "Dindukallu Dindukallu" in the 2008 film Dindigul Sarathy. Musical performances in Soodhu Kavvum, Pandiya Naadu, and Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam all followed in 2013. The following year, Dasan contributed music to nearly a dozen films. He remained one of the most active playback singers in the Tamil industry throughout the rest of the 2010s, even winning the SIIMA Award for "Best Male Playback Singer in Tamil" at the 2019 South Indian International Movie Awards. Dasan also enjoyed success as a composer, with highlights included 2016's Aviyal and 2021's MGR Magan, and as a part-time actor with cameos in films like 2018's Tagaru and 2019's Jackpot.
