Defined by numerous line-up changes following fall-outs due to musical differences, the London-based electronic/ambient group Archive had a tempestuous start during their formative years. They enjoyed a brief period of stability when vocalist Craig Walker took over the role of lead singer between 2000 and 2004. Three well-received albums helped raised the stature of the band, especially in Europe where the album Michel Vaillant was the soundtrack to the French film of the same name. Shortly after the release of Michel Vaillant, Walker left the band citing musical differences as the reason for his departure and Archive embarked upon a European tour without him. It heralded the start of a new modus operandi for the group, who now operated more like a musical collective with an ever-changing roster of performers rather than a band with a fixed line-up. It's a formula that works for the band and they have continued to build their growing European fan base whilst remaining relatively unknown in their native UK. The European online dating service Meetic used music from Archive's 2015 album Restriction to promote a series of TV adverts. Archive's tenth studio album, The False Foundation was released in 2016 and promoted by three music videos. In subsequent years, the group went on an extended hiatus and returned six years later with their eleventh album, 2022's Call to Arms and Angels.
