Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who were both pastors, Brian Johnson grew up leading Christian youth groups before marrying his wife Jenn in 2000 and taking over the Worship Department at the Bethel Church that his grandfather had founded in 1954 in Redding, California. As an extension of the church, the worship ministry took inspiration from choirs like Hillsong and Soul Survivor, steadily growing from a local community group into an international touring act, a record company and a large collection of songwriters, musicians and performers. Brian and Jenn Johnson first recorded 'Undone' in 2001 and 'We Believe' in 2006 as a duo, but as their live workshops, gatherings and shows began drawing audiences of thousands, they released 'Here Is Love', their first live album as Bethel Music, in 2010. Mixing soaring rock jams with soulful, gospel euphoria and large scale orchestras, their shows have always been unifying, soul-bearing tributes to God, and early albums 'For the Sake of the World' and 'Tides' were full of contemporary, self-penned hymns and spontaneous, improvised declarations of faith. They stripped down their sound on the much-loved acoustic album 'The Loft Sessions' in 2012, but came back in full glory on 'You Make Me Brave', which was recorded in Bethel Church's Civil Auditorium in 2013 and reached a career high of number ten in the US Billboard Charts. Follow-ups 'We Will Not Be Shaken' and 'Have It All' both reached number 12 and topped the Christian Charts and the church won four awards at the GMA Dove Awards in 2016. The youth ministry named Jesus Culture was also born out of the church and over the years Steffany Gretzinger, Amanda Cook and Kelly Heiligenthal became key members of the sprawling, multi-membered collective, touring South Africa and Europe before returning with their 15th album 'Moments: Mighty Sound' in 2018.
