Blank & Jones

Formed in Cologne, Germany in 1995, electronica/house/trance duo Blank & Jones is comprised of DJs and musicians Jan Pieter ‘Piet’ Blank and René Runge AKA DJ Jaspa Jones. The duo met at the Popkomm music conference, releasing “Sunrise”, their first single, two years later. Their first album, In da Mix, was released in 1999 under the name Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones. The album featured their first hit single, “Cream”, which reached #24 on the UK Singles chart and #1 on the Dance chart. Their second album, DJ Culture, was the first album released under the more familiar Blank & Jones moniker. Their early material explored the world of trance music, but they began to expand their repertoire, adding chill, lounge, house, and other forms of electronic music. They released a series of albums including Substance (2002), The Logic of Pleasure (2008), Eat Raw for Breakfast (2009), and many others. Many of their singles were collaborations with vocalists such as Anne Clark, Steve Kilbey (The Church), Bobo, Jason Caeser, and more. One of their most noteworthy collaborations was with The Cure’s Robert Smith on a cover of that band’s “A Forest”. They launched their chill-out Relax series in 2003, with 10 more volumes over the next 15 years. Their Milchbar series of releases have been equally popular. Blank & Jones became in in-demand remix duo, working with artists such as Pet Shop Boys, Chicane, Delerium, Johnny Hates Jazz, and many others. Blank & Jones started a series of ‘80s music compilations called So80s, which gathered together some of the best synthpop artists of the new wave era. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of their partnership, the duo released Relax (Edition Twelve) and Milchbar Seaside Season 12.
