Bob Margolin

Blues guitarist Bob ‘Steady Rollin’’ Margolin was born May 9, 1949 in Brookline, Massachusetts. At the age of 15, the music of Chuck Berry inspired him to start playing guitar. He made his first recorded appearance in 1967 as a member of psychedelic band the Freeborne on their album Peak Impressions. In 1973, Margolin joined Muddy Waters’ band and played with him until 1980, appearing in the film The Last Waltz alongside Waters and the Band. During this period, he also collaborated with Big Joe Duskin and Pinetop Perkins. Margolin released his first solo album, The Old School, in 1989 on the Powerhouse label. After two more releases for that label, he signed with Alligator Records, releasing Down in the Alley in 1993. He continued to tour and release a series of albums for various labels including Hold Me to It (1999), In North Carolina (2007), and Up & In (2009). He collaborated with Ann Rabson and released the 2012 album Not Alone, which received two nominations at the Blues Music Awards in 2013. In 2019, Margolin released the album This Guitar and Tonight, which earned the Blues Music Award for Acoustic Album of the Year in 2020.
