Brooks & Dunn

With album sales totalling over 30 million, country music duo Brooks & Dunn are one of the most successful country acts of all time. Their 20 number one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Chart began in 1991 when they became the first country act to have number one hits with their first four singles. Leon 'Kix' Brooks and Ronnie Dunn were both solo artists when they were introduced by Tim DuBois in 1990, signing as a duo to the Arista Nashville label. Their blend of Dunn's soulfully intense traditional country voice and Brooks' highly energetic presence as a showman made their act a winning combination which helped to renew interest in line dancing in the USA in the 1990s and propel it to a national craze which led to their music charting not only on the Country Chart but also the Billboard Hot 100. Their debut single 'Brand New Man' went to straight to number one in the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1991, as did the follow-up singles from the album - 'My Next Broken Heart', 'Neon Moon' and 'Boot Scootin' Boogie', also all released in 1991. 'Boot Scootin' Boogie' was particularly popular and also hit the mainstream charts. Their second album 'Hard Workin' Man' (1993) reached number two in the Billboard Hot Country Albums Chart and produced two number one singles, 'She Used to Be Mine' (1993) and 'That Ain't No Way to Go' in 1994. Their third album 'Waitin' On Sundown' was their first number one album and this produced three number one singles, 'She's Not the Cheatin' Kind', 'Little Miss Honky Tonk' and 'You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone'. Another number one album followed with 'Borderline' in 1996, featuring the number one singles 'My Maria' and 'A Man This Lonely'. The duo continued to produce number one hits throughout the 1990s and mid-2000s, with nine number ones between 1997 and 2005. In this time they won many awards including Vocal Duo of the Year every year between 1992 and 2005, with the exception of 2000. They had three more number one albums during this time, 'Steers and Stripes' (2001), 'Red Dirt Road' (2003) and 'Hillbilly Deluxe' (2005). Brooks & Dunn are also renowned for their high energy stage shows, and have toured extensively with artists such as Keith Urban, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson and Reba McEntire. In 2006, they played as the opening act for The Rolling Stones in their show in Omaha, Nebraska. They announced that they were to split in 2009, performing a final tour and releasing compilation album '#1s... And Then Some' in 2009. They re-united in 2014 and performed a series of shows with Reba McEntire called 'Together in Vegas'. In 2019 they produced a collaborative album 'Reboot' with several country artists including Luke Combs, Kane Brown and Thomas Rhett. The album contained rewritten versions of their greatest hits, each sung with a different artist. It went to number one in the Billboard Hot Country Albums Chart, showing the band's longevity and appeal over several decades.
