Burns

Matthew James Burns (October 31, 1985), simply known as Burns, is an LA-based English DJ, songwriter, and producer. The son of a painter and a heavyweight boxer, he began making music at the age of 12 and discovered sampling during his teenage years, which inspired him to produce his own tracks marrying analog technology with modern software. He emerged onto the club scene in the late 2000s, opening for the likes of deadmau5 and Calvin Harris before making his official debut with the EPs Turbo and Teknique in 2009. Included in his 2010 EP So Many Nights, the single “Y.S.L.M. (You Stopped Loving Me)” with French artist Fred Falke became a club hit and was followed by the compilation album This Is Burns 001 - European Sex Music - Part 1 later that year. Burns would go on to score another club smash with the 2012 single “Lies,” which bowed at Number 32 on the UK Singles Chart and received the remix treatment by Skream, Tyga, and Otto Knows. After moving to Los Angeles in 2014 and producing Britney Spears’ Top 20 hit “Make Me…” in 2016, Burns signed with RCA Records and released the 2017 single “Far Gone” with Johnny Yukon. In the following years, he continued to collaborate closely with some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Maluma and Rae Sremmurd on 2018’s “Hands on Me,” and scored production credits on seven songs from Lady Gaga’s Chromatica (2020). In 2021, Burns resumed his recording career with the single "Talamanca," reaching Number 80 in the UK.
