Camillo Echeverry is a Colombian pop singer, songwriter, and producer from Medellin. His sound seamlessly melds various combinations of dance-pop, cumbia, tropical, and reggaeton, and his light, breezy tenor glides gently over organic and electronic beats, sweeping guitars, loops, and intricate backing vocal charts in a diverse yet mysterious balancing of creative formulas. His chart history dates to 2007 when, as a 14-year-old, he won RCN Television reality competition program El Factor XS. His debut single, "Regálame Tu Corazón," reached number one in Colombia and was certified gold. He has achieved even greater success as a songwriter of multi-platinum hits such as "Sin Pijama" for Natti Natasha and Becky G, "Si Estuviésemos Juntos" for Bad Bunny, and "Ya No Tiene Novio" for Mau y Ricky and Sebastián Yatra. After walking away from performing for nearly a decade to concentrate on behind-the-scenes work, he re-emerged at age 24 in 2017 with the single "Medialuna" for Sony Music and its smash video starring Venezuelan singer (and later fiancee) Evaluna Montaner, sister of Mau y Ricky. He scored big in the U.S. in 2019 with his charting single "No Te Vayas" while continuing to write for and produce other artists.
Echeverry was born in Medellin in 1994. He began singing in church as a child, but his true passion as he reached adolescence was to become an architect. That all changed when he decided to compete for a spot on XS Factor when he was 13. During the competition his life was documented non-stop by entertainment media. After winning the contest and signing to RN Records, his debut single, "Regálame Tu Corazón," reached the top of the Colombian pop charts within its first month. His debut album, 2008's Regalame Tu Corazón reached the Top Ten. During those years, Echeverry was an actor as well, winning a recurring role in the televenovela En Los Tacones de Eva. His nonstop touring, interviews, commercials, and television appearances exerted too much pressure on the teen. After releasing his sophomore album, Trafico de Sentimientos, for Sony Music México in 2010, which netted the hits "Como Le Digo" and "Quiero Explicarte," Echeverry walked away for a time and returned to working as a producer and writer. He spent nearly a decade penning songs for a wide variety of Latin stars, gaining award nominations, appearing in videos, and occasionally collaborating. He returned to recording on his own for Sony in 2018 with "Medialuna," whose viral video garnered over 11 million views. Another single, "Nos Vamos a Casar," also charted. While he was still extremely busy as a producer and songwriter, he managed to jump start his recording career with several more singles in 2019, including his wild breakout collaborative track "Desconocidos" with Mau y Ricky and Manuel Turizo, that racked up 470 million views, "La Boca" with Mau y Ricky, and "En Guerra" with Sebastian Yatra. ~ Thom Jurek
