Chad Lawson

Chad Lawson – born Mach 26, 1975, in Morganton, North Carolina – is a classical, jazz, and new age pianist. Inspired by seeing Sha Na Na on television, he began studying the piano at the age of 5. He began composing his own material after being given a Korg M1, his first keyboard. He majored in jazz performance at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While pursuing his major, he began a career as a studio musician. He also started working as sideman, touring with artists such as Babik Reinhardt. Moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, he formed the Chad Lawson Trio and self-released a Christmas album before signing with Summit Records and releasing two more albums: Dear Dorothy: The Oz Sessions (2002) and Unforeseen (2004). After accompanying Latin singer Julio Iglesias on tour, Chad Lawson signed with the Windham Hill label and recorded the jazz-oriented album Set on a Hill (2009), followed by the classical and new age influenced albums The Piano ( 2011), The Space Between (2013) and The Chopin Variations (2014), which rose to Number 1 on the Billboard Classical Albums chart. Further albums include Dark Conclusions: The Lore Variations (2016), Bach Interpreted: Piano Variations On Bach Chorales (2016), and Re:Piano (2018), which climbed to Number 5 on the Classical Albums chart. He signed a new record deal with Decca, releasing the album You Finally Knew in 2020. Chad Lawson also composed music for the podcast series The Lore (2016-2018) and Unobscured (2019-2020).
