Chantay Savage

Throughout her short-lived career, American R&B vocalist Chantay Savage (July 16, 1971) became a mainstay on the US charts in the early to mid-90s. Before launching herself as a successful solo artist, the Chicago native spent her days working as a session musician and penning songs for other artists, most notably CeCe Peniston’s 1992 hit single “We Got a Love Thang.” “If You Believe,” her debut single, arrived in 1993 and was quickly followed by the release of studio album Here We Go…, released in June of that year. The LP peaked at Number 89 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and spawned the Top 20 hit “Betcha’ll Never Find.” I Will Survive (Doin' It My Way) (1996), her sophomore effort, entered the R&B charts at Number 14, largely thanks to “I Will Survive,” a Gloria Gaynor cover that made its way to the Top 5 in the US and fell short of the Top 10 in the UK. Preceded by the single “Come Around,” third album This Time dropped in 1999 and reached Number 62 on the US R&B charts. In the following years, Savage remained active through a number of collaborations with Malik Yusef (2003’s “Auto-Eroticism”), Full Flava (2006’s “September”), and spoken-word artist Quill (2012’s “Everything Must Change”).
