Django Django

Crafting sun-blissed, art-pop melodies and lush, rumbling grooves, Django Django were quickly heralded as the latest saviours of British rock when their oddball psychedelic indie music first started making waves in 2011. Formed at art school in Edinburgh by drummer/producer David Maclean, early gigs in Dalston led to their jangling, kaleidoscopic folktronica and DIY, Beach Boys-style harmonies being dropped alongside the likes of Super Furry Animals and Animal Collective. Obvious comparisons were instantly drawn with Maclean's brother's former group The Beta Band, but Django Django cemented their own reputation with acclaimed singles "WOR" and "Default." Their 2012 debut album Django Django went on to earn a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize and was generally regarded as one of the records of the year for its daring innovation, unassuming charm and ramshackle pop sensibilities. Their second and third albums, titled Born Under Saturn and Marble Skies respectively, were released in 2015 and 2018. The genre-blending indie band brought in a touch of electronics for their fourth album Glowing in the Dark, released in 2021 while assembling a boatload of guests for the 2023 follow-up. A concept album comprising four parts to represent four planets, Off Planet rounded up the likes of Self Esteem ("Complete Me"), Stealing Sheep ("Dead Machine"), Jack PeƱate ("No Time") for an album that looks to hip-hop, acid house and a myriad other styles.
