Drafi Deutscher

Drafi Deutscher was a German singer-songwriter who enjoyed a successful and sometimes colourful career. As a solo artist his career peaked during the late 1960s after the singer had enjoyed a string of chart hits which included two number ones: 'Shake Hands' in 1964 and 'Heute Male ich dein Bild, Cindy-Lou' in 1965. During this period Deutscher was a household name until everything changed, after he was convicted of a public decency offence. For the next decade he worked in anonymity writing and producing hits for artists such as Tony Christie, Boney M and Nino de Angelo until in the mid-1980s he emerged from his self-imposed exile and began making public appearances under a variety of pseudonyms such as Mr. Walkie Talkie. After working with Christopher Evans Ironside on his 1984 hit 'Guardian Angel', Deutscher formed a duo with Oliver Simons called Mixed Emotions and the two friends had a string of hits during the remainder of the decade. During the 1990s, Deutscher resumed his career under his original name but unfortunately suffered two strokes and mental illness. After a number of years of ill health, he died of heart failure in 2006.
