Eddy Herrera

Eduardo José Herrera de los Ríos (April 30, 1964), better known by his stage name Eddy Herrera, is an award-winning Dominican merengue artist. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, he began taking guitar lessons from a local teacher at the age of 9. He also participated in several talent competitions, winning the Festival of the Voice of Santiago when he was just 17. In the following years, and much to the dismay of his mother, Eddy Herrera dropped out of college to become the lead singer of Wilfrido Vargas’ orchestra, lending his voice to classic hit songs such as “El Jardinero,” “El Loco y la Luna,” and “Mujer Tirana.” After leaving the group in 1990, Eddy Herrera kicked off his solo career with the album Independiente (1990), followed by Mi More (1991), Ámame (1993), Lluvia de Amor (1994), Los Hombres Calientes (1997), and Alma Gemela (1998), all of which were hugely successful in the Dominican Republic. In 2000, he achieved international success with the album Me Enamoré, which featured the smash hit “Demasiado Niña.” A year later, Eddy Herrera returned with his biggest hit “Tú Eres Ajena,” included in 2001’s Atrevido, which received nominations for the Latin Grammys and the Lo Nuestro Awards. In the subsequent years, he won a Latin Grammy for Best Merengue/Bachata Album for Ahora (2020) and collaborated extensively with up-and-coming urban artists such as Mozart La Para, Vakeró, and Omar Enrique.
